I couldn’t decide if I wanted to write about differences or food. Hmmmm. Both, perhaps? While I do indeed enjoy a BLT (with pimento cheese, of course), as of late, differences in opinion (a nice way of saying so many angry folks out there getting so upset with one another simply because they see things differently), seem to be ramping up all around us, and I feel inclined to put my two cents in. Lucky you. Where is a sarcasm font when you need one?
Have you noticed it too, the differences? Political, moral, ethical, yada yada yada. Fisticuffs, or thereabouts, are flying all over the place. Whatever happened to celebrating our differences? Supporting each other, even if we may not agree with one another on every single thing. I miss that. I also believe that some differences are a good thing. Boy what a boring, one sided world we would live in if we agreed and acted in the same manner about everything. But it feels, to me at least, that the days are fewer and far between where we are turning differences into something positive.
I would love to see more forums, civilized meetings, discussions, and less hate filled rallies and bullying. I would love to see seminars and workshops on how to meet in the middle. How to work together to have both sides heard without fearing for your safety should you attend. A round table of talks about how we can take ideas from both sides and put them to good use. Tolerance should never be a one way street. Ever.
So, good people what do we do next? Oh how I wish I knew. But this I do know. You can wake up each day and be kind, be courteous, pay it forward. You can think twice before you hurl an insult. You can respect someone’s opinion, and their right to that opinion, even if you don’t feel the same. Yes. That’s a great place to start.
Until next time.
